Nativity Fast Retreat Zoom
November 13th to December 18th
The Nativity Fast begins on November 15th and ends on December 24th. It is a 40-day period of preparation for the Nativity of Christ, during which the faithful abstain from meat, dairy, eggs, and other animal products. The 40 days of fasting are meant to prepare us for the Feast of the Nativity, but the busyness of the secular celebration can interfere with our best efforts to center our hearts on Christ. This is a time of spiritual preparation, including increased prayer, scripture reading, and almsgiving, in addition to dietary restrictions. Our resource for this Retreat will be the Orthodox book: Behold A Great Light, which is a daily devotional designed to help us contemplate the mysteries of the incarnation from the beginning of the Nativity fast on November 15 through Christmas and Theophany. David has the audio recordings of these reflections read by the authors listed above. Each week, we will listen to one of the Reflections for that week (each about 15 minutes) and then have some conversation around the Reflection.
When: The Zoom Retreat begins on Thursday, before the Fast begins on November 13th and continues every Thursday, ending on December 18th.
